Science. Technology. Engineering. Math.

It’s clear these subjects earn less than favorable reputations with many children as they grow older. Enjoyment and wonder are not pushed as priority at the same time that the ideas being taught grow more complex, resulting in what often turns into lifelong distance from these subjects.

This fall at the Berwyn Public Library, the Youth Services Department is implementing S.T.E.A.M. based programming, a take on the nationwide S.T.E.M. initiative that focuses on science, technology, engineering and math. S.T.E.A.M. is based on the same principles, but includes art.

What does this all mean? Your library is turning into a learning center like never before. In our new Mad Scientist Club, for ages 8 to 13, we will make fun, hands-on experiments and creations that inspire wonder and foster an intimate relationship with these subjects. Science and math don’t have to be painful. When your child is shown why it matters and how appealing it can be, new doors are opened and possibilities grow larger.

After its maiden voyage, our S.T.E.A.M. programming will expand to include younger age groups in the spring.

2014’s Mad Scientist Club begins on Jan. 9 at 4 p.m. and runs for six weeks. Visit our website at www.berwynlibrary.org or stop in at the Youth Services Department to learn more details or register.
