Students turn books into pumpkin art

Published: Monday, Nov. 4, 2013 4:27 p.m. CDT

ADDISON – Fullerton Elementary School held a pumpkin decorating contest last week between classrooms.

Each class chose a favorite book and decorated a pumpkin with that book in mind. Then, classes visited the pumpkin display and students cast ballots for their favorite pumpkin, excluding the one their class created.

Following voting, students returned to their classrooms to discuss what inferences they made from the decorations on each pumpkin.

The winning pumpkin was decorated with The Wizard of Oz in mind. It included a yellow brick road backdrop and flashing red eyes.
