ROSELLE – With their full line-up together for only the second time this fall, Glenbard West’s girls cross county team put forth a dominant effort at Saturday’s Lake Park Class 3A sectional.
Placing five runners in the top-11, the Hilltoppers won their second straight sectional championship with a score of 30. New Trier (76) was the runner-up.
Madeline Perez prepared for her defense of the IHSA individual state title with a first-place time of 16:45.
A year ago, the senior, who has competed in just three races this season, captured the sectional title with a clocking of 16:38.
Lindsay Graham, who did not compete at the regional race the previous week, returned from an injury and was fourth in 17:19. Lisa Luczak came in fifth in 17:30, Grace Rogers finished ninth in 17:50 and Janie Nabholz was 11th in 17:57.
Rounding out the Glenbard West contingent was Kathryn Kenwood in 17th place and Megan Ozog in 27th.
Now Perez and the Hilltoppers will look to finish the season on a strong note in Saturday’s state meet at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
The Raiders advanced to the state meet as a team after coming in as the runner-up at the Wheaton Academy Class 2A sectional Saturday.
Glenbard South posted a total of 60, finishing behind only Yorkville (50).
Individually, Diane Lipa was second after coming through the chute in 18:03. Rebecca Sippel placed sixth in 18:41, Caroline Arlasky was ninth in 19:00 and Elizabeth Niedert came in 16th in 19:28.
Abby Schlenker and Bailey Reese were 27th and 28th, respectively, and Jayme Schlenker finished 31st.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
John Wold proved that he is more than ready to defend his Class 2A individual title after a scintillating performance at Saturday’s Wheaton Academy sectional.
The senior posted a time of 14:58 in winning the event by 19 seconds.
His effort helped the Raiders qualify for Saturday’s state meet in Peoria with a third-place finish (85 points).
Following Wold was Joe Singleton in sixth place with a clocking of 15:46. Joe Meade was 12th, Ibrahim Jawad placed 28th and Michael King finished 38th. Jon O’Rourke (41st) and Colin Meade (44th) also competed.
Paul Christian will represent the Hilltoppers at the IHSA state meet Saturday at Detweiller Park in Peoria after qualifying out of Saturday’s Lake Park Class 3A sectional.
The junior placed 12th overall with a time of 15:12.
As a team, Glenbard West was seventh with a score of 178.
Rounding out the top-5 for the Hilltoppers were Jack Billings (24th), Chris Buechner (36th), Eric Neumann (42nd) and Ben Hecht (64th).
