Humidor Cigar Shop applies for BYOB license

WESTMONT – Humidor Cigar Shop in Westmont is one step closer to allowing its patrons to bring liquor to enjoy a cocktail with the shop’s cigar offerings.

The business requested a Class 21 BYOB Liquor License during the Oct. 17 Westmont Village Board meeting, getting the OK from the board. Humidor, 225 E. Ogden Ave., now needs to go through license and background processes.

“It’s just for a social drink and the ambiance,” co-owner Sam Karam said at the meeting. “We’re a cigar shop not a bar.”

Karam and his wife Tammi Karam said the business would like to give its patrons the option to bring liquor into the shop’s new cigar lounge.

Businesses that have this type of license are reviewed annually, according to Village Manager Ron Searl.

Mayor Ron Gunter said the timeline could vary as to when the license would officially be granted, but it ultimately depends on how fast the business begins the process.

“We have to create the license and then they apply for it, pay the fee and go through training,” Gunter said. “It shouldn’t take that long but the timeline is up to the business.”
