Glenbard North cruises into second round of playoffs

CAROL STREAM – On a wet and sometimes sloppy night, the Glenbard North High School football team was able to make enough big plays to beat visiting New Trier 35-10 and advance to the next round of the playoffs.

The Panthers will face the winner of Stevenson and St. Charles East, who play Saturday afternoon.

Running back Justin Jackson scored three of the Panthers' touchdowns and ran for more than 200 yards.
But it was fullback Dillon Warnecke who put the Panthers on the scoreboard first with a 30 yard touchdown catch on a fourth-and-5 play on the first drive.

During a wild sequence in the second quarter, New Trier threw an interception to defensive back Sam Kriese, Jackson lost a fumble and New Trier lost another fumble. Jackson then ran 33 yards for a touchdown to put the Panthers up 14-0.

On the Panthers' next possession, Jackson ran 72 yards for his second touchdown. New Trier kicked a field goal as the half ended to make the score 21-3.

Jackson opened the second half with a 62-yard touchdown run.

New Trier was able to drive into Glenbard North's side of the field a couple of times in the third quarter, but the Panthers intercepted the ball twice, including Kriese's second of the night.

Freshman Vittorio Tricase ran for 22-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. New Trier scored its lone touchdown with a little less than three minutes left in the game.
