Suburban Life 2013 Central all-area boys soccer team

Players from Glenbard North, Glenbard South, Glenbard West, St. Francis, West Chicago, Wheaton Academy, Wheaton North and Wheaton Warrenville South comprise the team.

The 2013 boys soccer season brought with it conference championships, deep playoff runs and some memorable moments for players teams throughout the area. We honor some of the best players with our 2013 all-area team.

Ivan Barajas

School: Glenbard West

Year: Senior

Impact: A co-captain for Glenbard West, this central defender had a big hand in the Hilltoppers allowing just 13 goals in 17 matches. Described by coach Maciej Kusmierz as a player with both strong ability and leadership qualities, Barajas also scored two goals.

Jackson Duncan

School: Wheaton North

Year: Senior

Impact: This attacking midfielder was an all-sectional honorable mention pick. A senior, Duncan scored five goals this fall, second behind the seven goals of Daniel Norton, and also dished out five assists.

Jonny Gutierrez

School: Glenbard South

Year: Junior

Impact: This junior midfielder made a big impact on the offensive end for Glenbard South this fall. A skilled finished, Gutierrez led the Raiders with nine goals and also added three assists.

Sam Hardy

School: Wheaton Academy

Year: Senior

Impact: This center midfielder has been a big part of the gaudy offensive numbers that the Warriors put up this fall. Second on the team behind Ty Seager with 13 goals, Hardy tops Wheaton Academy with 16 assists. He was an IHSSCA all-sectional selection this fall.

Zach Jones

School: Glenbard North

Year: Junior

Impact: In his second year as a starter, this central defender led a group which yielded only 17 goals in 21 contests this fall. A tireless worker who played every minute this season, Jones was also named to the DVC all-conference squad.

CJ Koeller

School: Glenbard North

Year: Senior

Impact: This three-year varsity starter and co-captain was a unanimous DVC all-conference pick while also netting all-sectional honors. A center midfielder who could play anywhere on the field, Koeller totaled two goals and five assists this fall.

David Ortega

School: Glenbard West

Year: Senior

Impact: Another co-captain for Glenbard West, this midfielder had a high work-rate and contributed both offensively and defensively for a Hilltoppers team that went 9-5-3. Ortega, who will continue his soccer career at Dominican University, scored three goals.

Ty Seager

School: Wheaton Academy

Year: Sophomore

Impact: The offensive leader for the Warriors this fall, this sophomore forward has been nearly unstoppable around the net. Seager netted a hat trick against Fenton in the regional final and added two goals in the sectional semifinal to raise his total to 25 to go along with seven assists.

Joey Spera

School: Wheaton Warrenville South

Year: Senior

Impact: A three-year starter and a captain this fall, Spera was an all-sectional pick along with a unanimous all-DVC selection. The leader of a strong defensive group for the Tigers, the senior was also named to the all-conference team in 2012.

Mike Stelletello

School: Wheaton Warrenville South

Year: Senior

Impact: This senior was another major contributor to a defensive unit that allowed one or fewer goals in 12 matches this fall. A two-year varsity player who provided offensive punch on dead-ball situations, Stelletello was an all-sectional honorable mention pick and a member of the all-DVC team.

Marshall West

School: Wheaton Academy

Year: Senior

Impact: A captain for the Warriors, this senior center back was an all-state and all-sectional selection this fall. A standout on the back line, West and his mates allowed only 17 goals in 24 matches and posted shutouts on the likes of Wheaton Warrenville South and Wheaton North. He has contributed 10 goals and four assists.
