Riverside Police Department launches Twitter account

RIVERSIDE – Riverside Police will start sharing information with the public via Twitter.

The @pdriverside account will send updates about high-profile incidents and other police notifications.

"We won't be tweeting every incident our officers respond to as we don't want to inundate our followers with information," Deputy Chief Bill Legg said in a news release. "But serious incidents, police news and other general information will now be shared with our followers."

Police said residents should not use social media sites like Twitter to report crimes or emergencies. The @pdriverside account will not be monitored outside business hours.
