Organ recital, original dance program coming to St. John's in Lombard

Published: Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013 1:30 p.m. CDT

LOMBARD – Cathryn Wilkinson will be the featured performer in an organ recital at 3 p.m. Nov. 17 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lombard.

Titled an “Organ Recital for All Ages,” the first half of the program is intended to appeal to children, according to a news release. “Five Sacred Dances” by Margaret Sandresky will include six dancers performing new choreography by Katherine Skleba, a member of the dance faculty at College of DuPage.

The second half of the program includes more variations. Michael Bedford’s set on the Chinese hymn Le P’ing (Golden Breaks the Dawn) was premiered at the national convention of the American Guild of Organists in 2010.

Wilkinson has served as organist for Lutheran, Episcopal and Presbyterian churches in Virginia, Iowa, Oak Park and Glen Ellyn, where she currently resides.

A reception with light refreshments will follow the concert, during which fabric artist Pat Shaver will offer samples of her work for viewing and for sale.

The public is cordially invited to attend the Wilkinson recital and reception. No tickets will be sold for the event; a free-will offering will be received. A $10 donation is suggested.
