Prep roundup: Rams' XC duo notches top-10 regional finishes

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Glenbard East

Vince Booth and Jack Peters both finished in the top-10 at the Fenwick regional at Schiller Woods in Chicago on Saturday. The senior duo helped the Rams take sixth in the team standings and advance to Saturday's Lake Park sectional.

Willowbrook

Jimmy Funteas was 11th to lead the Warriors at the Fenwick regional. Anthony Acitelli (22nd) and Luke Caron (37th) also advanced to the sectional, but the Warriors were seventh, one place shy of advancing as a team.

Addison Trail

Luis Miranda was 29th at the Fenwick regional on Saturday to advance to the sectional race. AT was eighth overall.

Montini

Tyler Pacana (eighth) and Emmett Billings (10th) led the Broncos to a fourth place finish at the Class 1A Aurora Christian regional on Saturday. Montini advanced to tomorrow's Lisle sectional.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Glenbard East

The Rams were sixth at the Class 3A Fenwick regional on Saturday. East's top four runners, Kelly Heniff, Yoselin Toledo, Jayne Peters and Hannah Appleyard, all finished within 11 seconds of each other. Heniff crossed the finish line first for East and took 21st place. Their pack running led the Rams to a sixth place finish and a spot at the sectional race.

Willowbrook

The Warriors missed out on a team spot at the sectional race, but Willowbrook runners Jocelyn Rodriguez (29th), Danielle Velasquez (32nd), Taylor Burton (36th) and Kathrene Garcia (40th) advanced individually from the Fenwick regional.

Montini

Brittany Murphy's third place finish led the Broncos at the Class 2A Wheaton Academy regional on Saturday. Gianna Salzbrunn was 20th to also help Montini place sixth and advance to sectionals as a team.

GIRLS TENNIS

Glenbard East

Priscilla Palermo had a positive showing at her first state tournament. The freshman went 5-2 to tie for ninth place in singles. She won two main draw matches before losing in the third round, but rebounded with three consolation round victories.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Glenbard East

After beating Lake Park 25-16, 25-21 in a regional quarterfinal on Monday, the Rams were knocked out of the playoffs by St. Charles East. The Saints beat the Rams 25-14, 25-12 in a regional semi on Tuesday at York. Glenbard East finished with a 15-21 record.

Montini

The Broncos cruised past St. Joseph 25-10, 25-7 in a Class 3A regional quarterfinal on Monday. Montini advanced to the regional final, which is Thursday against defending Class 3A state champ St. Francis, by beating Nazareth in three games. The Roadrunners blew Montini away in the first game, 25-12, but Montini evened the match by winning game two 25-21. Naz led 16-11 in the decisive game before the Broncos made a run to close with a 25-21 victory.

Addison Trail

The host Blazers beat Bartlett 25-21, 25-16 in a regional quarterfinal on Monday, but saw the season close with a 25-19, 25-16 loss to Geneva the next day. AT was 13-24 this season.

Willowbrook

The Warriors dropped a regional quarterfinal to Fenton 23-25, 15-25 on Monday at South Elgin. Danielle McNamara and Jamie Chiapetta had five kills each and Mia Railing added four in the loss. Kelsey Linnig had six assists. Willowbrook's final record was 12-24.

BOYS SOCCER

Addison Trail

A goal from Cesar Chavez wasn't enough to lift the Blazers to a regional title on Saturday as the Blazers lost to host Elk Grove 2-1. Chavez tied the score at 1-1 in the second half, but the Grenadiers retook the lead in the 66th minute. AT finished the season 7-10-1.

Montini

The Broncos' first ever appearance in a sectional almost resulted in a sectional title. After winning the program's first ever regional title, Montini came up just short against Timothy Christian in a 1-0 loss on Saturday. The Broncos finished the season 12-6-1.
