BROOKFIELD – The village of Brookfield will receive $10,000 to update its 15-year-old Open Space Plan as part of a grant from ComEd and land conservation nonprofit Openlands.

The Green Region grants are designed to relieve some the financial strain many municipalities are facing in a tough economic climate. Grants were awarded to 17 municipalities and nonprofits for projects focusing on conservation, preservation, protecting endangered species and improving parks and recreation resources.

ComEd will distribute the grant money over two years as Brookfield updates its Open Space Plan, which will address key natural systems like Salt Creek.
