BERWYN – Senior running back Robert Spillane made sure there was no doubt who the best team in the Chicago Catholic White was.
The Western Michigan-bound Spillane scored three touchdowns in the first quarter to build a 15-point lead en route to Fenwick’s 28-14 win over St. Laurence on Saturday at Morton West.
With the win, Fenwick (8-1, 4-0 CCL White) wrapped up the CCL White title for the second year in a row before it joins a newly formed division in the CCL with teams from the Suburban Christian Conference next year.
After picking up the crucial win, the Friars learned their playoff fate later on Saturday. Fenwick will play Hersey (6-3) from the Mid Suburban League East at Elmhurst College on Friday at 7 p.m.
Hersey was 4-1 in the MSL East to share the title with Rolling Meadows and Elk Grove. The Huskies went 2-3 against playoff teams during the regular season with losses to Schaumburg, Fremd and Rolling Meadows. Fenwick’s only loss of the season came against CCL Blue foe Providence.
