Wheaton North, WWS and St. Francis ready to get playoffs started
Glenbrook North vs. Wheaton North
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: 1 Falcon Way, Wheaton
2013 records: Glenbrook North 6-3; Wheaton North 7-2
Outlook: Wheaton North must quickly forget about Friday's loss to Glenbard North, which denied the Falcons a share of the DuPage Valley Conference title.
Receiving a No. 5-seed, the squad still received a first round home playoff game as they match up against a Glenbrook North team that won the Central Suburban North conference.
The Spartans started of the season with a 1-3 mark, losing to playoff teams Hersey, Maine South and Niles West, before ratting off five straight victories. Their most impressive win came last week in a 21-17 decision over Highland Park.
Wheaton Warrenville South vs. Dunbar
When: 4:15 p.m. Friday
Where: Gately Stadium
2013 records: WWS 7-2; Dunbar 8-1
Outlook: After a one-year hiatus, Wheaton Warrenville South makes a return to the Class 7A playoffs.
Coming off a 55-7 win over Glenbard East to close out the regular season, the Tigers will head to Chicago to take on Dunbar.
The Mightymen finished in second-place in the Chicago Public Illini conference, with their lone loss of the fall coming to Simeon by a 46-6 margin in week seven. Dunbar has shown an ability to score, having put up 36 or more points in six contests.
Strength of schedule though is an issue as the Mightymen did not play a team during the regular season that finished with more than six wins.
St. Francis vs. Glenbard South
When: 1 p.m. Saturday
Where: 23W200 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn
2013 records: St. Francis 5-4; Glenbard South 9-0
Outlook: St. Francis punched its ticket to the postseason with a 50-8 win over St. Edward in week nine. The Spartans are led by running back James Butler, who has scored 19 touchdowns on the season, but the status of the senior is in question after he left Friday's game with an injury.
St. Francis will be looking to hand Glenbard South their first loss of the fall as the Raiders completed a perfect regular season with a 29-13 victory over Bloom on Friday.
Glenbard South features a strong offense which has scored 23 or more points in every game this season. Running back Zach Smith leads the way with 26 total touchdowns.
