Elmhurst seeks new Director of Public Works

ELMHURST – The city has officially posted the open position for Director of Public Works.

After Mike Hughes left the position to pursue a private-sector career, Steven Weinstock has been serving as interim Director of Public Works.

The Director of Public Works plans, organizes and administers a full-service public works department. The department provides engineering, street maintenance, forestry and grounds maintenance, electrical, fleet services, building maintenance, water production and treatment, and water distribution and sewer collection.

The Public Works Departments has a staff of 89 full-time employees and more than a $55.6 million operating budget.

The city lists a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field and six years of senior level management experience in a major public works setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as qualifications for the position. Previous experience in a collective bargaining work environment is considered a plus.

The annual salary is around $129,205 based on qualifications and experience. A benefits package is also included.
