Driver’s license workshop draws 1,000 attendees
CICERO – A workshop designed to help noncitizen residents apply for and obtain temporary driver’s licenses through a new Illinois law drew more than 1,000 people Oct. 19 in Cicero.
The workshop featured information on how undocumented residents can apply for temporary driver’s licenses under a new Illinois program that begins Dec. 1.
State Rep. Lisa Hernandez, Cicero, who co-sponsored the bill in the Illinois General Assembly, said the temporary licenses will help improve safety and reduce insurance costs.
Applicants for a temporary driver’s licence must take driver’s training courses and also purchase insurance before receiving the temporary licenses.
The meeting, held at the Cicero Community Center, was the second such event sponsored by Hernandez.
