Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield was recently named the most recommended hospital in Illinois by NerdWallet Health, a health transparency website.

WINFIELD – Central DuPage Hospital (CDH) in Winfield recently claimed the highest ranking on a list of the Top 10 Most Recommended Hospitals in Illinois.

Compiled by health transparency website NerdWallet Health, the hospitals on the list reflect those with the highest patient satisfaction numbers collected through the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Survey, the first nationally standardized survey of patient responses.

According to the most recent results of the survey, 83 percent of patients would recommend the hospital to others.

This latest recognition is one of many for the hospital, which has been ranked the eighth best hospital in Illinois by U.S. News and World Report and one of the top 100 hospitals in the nation by Truven Health Analytics.

“That’s not the reason that we do what we do, of course,” CDH President Brian Lemon said.

The 333-bed facility specializes in orthopedic, cardiovascular, neuroscience, oncology and pediatric services.

Its orthopedic program is ranked 22nd nationally by U.S. News and World Report.

CDH performs more joint replacement surgeries than any other hospital in Illinois, Lemon said. The hospital’s high orthopedic ranking relates to the volume of surgeries performed there, because with more surgeries comes more expertise based on experience, he said.

CDH’s partnerships with hospitals such as Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago and top-ranked heart hospital Cleveland Clinic also have improved the care CDH provides in its pediatric and cardiovascular programs.

In addition to the federal patient satisfaction survey, CDH hires a third party to perform another survey. This continuous survey allows the hospital to review its results weekly.

The company serves other hospitals across the nation as well, so CDH can see how it measures in comparison. Its goal is to rank within the top 10 percent, which it does more often than not, Lemon said.

“It goes beyond customer service,” he said. “It’s all about caring.”

This is the main tool CDH uses to monitor its services, and results are shared with all staff to make sure everyone is well informed.

Although CDH has performed impressively on various rankings, it would be a mistake to say the hospital has achieved victory or that its mission is accomplished, Lemon said. The healthcare field is constantly evolving, and the hospital wants to evolve right along with it.

“It’s an attitude,” Lemon said. “We can always do better.”
