Smoke may be seen throughout DuPage County in the coming weeks, as the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County performs a series of prescription burns, according to a news release from the district.
Specially trained crews will deliberately set controlled fires around the area to help restore native prairies, wetlands and woodlands during the fall and winter, the release said.
The district cannot schedule prescription burns in advance because the process is highly dependent on weather and other factors. The public is encouraged to call 911 if they do not see signs or crews present. The burns will only take place during daylight hours.
