DOWNERS GROVE – Downers Grove saw twice as many home sales in September compared to the same month last year, according to the Maintstreet Organization of Realtors.
The organization reported 54 September home sales this year, compared to 27 a year ago.
The latest numbers continue a trend of stronger sales in Downers Grove compared to the previous two years.
In the first nine months of 2013, there were 469 homes sales in the village, compared to 354 in 2012, and 282 in 2011.
The average sale price is also up to about $365,383 through September 2013, compared to $325,068 in the same nine months in 2012, and $351,582 in 2011.
Homes are also selling more quickly, the report says. The average home this year has spent 129 days on the market, compared with 172 in 2012, and 188 in 2011.
Downers Grove had some of the best numbers during a month that saw home sales rise across the suburbs.
Sales of single-family, detached homes in DuPage, Lake and suburban Cook counties increased 30.7 percent in September 2013 compared with the same period a year ago, according to the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors.
Other suburbs with especially strong home sales numbers in the month, among others, included Burr Ridge, with a 120 percent increase from September 2012; Darien, with 186 percent; and Hillside, 120 percent.
