ELMHURST – Bully-prevention activist Eliza Byard will give this year's William R. Johnson Intercultural Lecture on Wednesday at Elmhurst College.

Byard is the Executive Director of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) which works to ensure safe schools. GLSEN targets both students and educators through youth leadership and professional training development programs and in-school programs.

Byard served on New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's commission on runaway and homeless LGBT youth. She currently serves on the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention's LGBT youth suicide prevention task force.

The William R. Johnson Intercultural Lecture is named in honor of the first openly gay person in modern history to gain ordination to the mainstream Christian ministry.

Byard's lecture, The LGBT Student and the Culture of Respect, will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Founders Lounge of the Frick Center at Elmhurst College.

Tickets are $10 for the general public and free for Elmhurst College, students, faculty, staff and alumni. Purchase tickets at www.elmhurst.edu/tix or call 630-617-3390.
