BARTLETT – A Metra train collided with a semi truck Monday in Bartlett, causing significant damage and delays, according to Metra officials.

The 3:38 p.m. inbound Milwaukee District West Line train was approaching the Bartlett station at Railroad and Oak avenues when it collided with a semi truck that was on the tracks and was carrying multiple vehicles, said Metra spokesperson Meg Reile.

It is unknown why the semi truck was on the tracks at the time that the train was approaching, according to Reile.

The cab of the train derailed slightly and debris from the train, the semi truck and the cars it was carrying blocked the area, Reile said. Two rails cars, the semi and its cargo were damaged as a result of the collision.

Delays on the line are were extensive Monday evening, according to Reile.

Cleanup was completed that night and all trains were operating on schedule Tuesday morning.

Police are currently investigating the incident to confirm the functionality of all gates and signals near the scene, Reile said.
