Montini’s boys soccer team won the first regional title in program history by knocking off host Lisle in penalty kicks 4-3 to win the Class 1A regional on Oct. 18.
Montini extended its playoff run with a 2-0 win over host Chicago Christian in a sectional semifinal on Tuesday. The Broncos will take on Timothy Christian for the sectional title on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Rams’ season came to an end with a 2-0 loss to Glenbard North on Tuesday in a regional semifinal. East was unable to spring the upset on its home field and finished the season with a 5-10-1 record.
The Blazers got past Leyden with a 2-1 win in penalty kicks in a regional semifinal on Tuesday. No. 11 seed AT will take on regional host and No. 3 seed Elk Grove at 3 p.m. Saturday in the final.
The Warriors finished the season 1-13-3 after losing to Bartlett 5-2 in a regional quarterfinal on Saturday. Tito Cabral and Aaron Johnson scored in the loss.
The Broncos took 12th at the Class 2A state meet over the weekend. Junior Adam Keefe had the best two-round score for Montini with a 13-over-par 155 to tie for 15th individually.
Gia Dela Cruz tied for 61st in the Class AA state meet after shooting 24-over-par in two rounds at Hickory Point Golf Club in Decatur.
Freshman Priscilla Palermo highlighted her standout debut high school season by winning a sectional title at Downers Grove South on Saturday. Palermo didn’t drop a set en route to the title, but did come back from 2-5 down in the first set of the final against Glenbard West’s Caroline Maltby before finishing off a 7-5, 6-1 victory. Palermo earned a seed at state, sliding into the 17 to 32 range.
The Warriors finished with six points and took seventh place at the Downers Grove South sectional.
The Blazers won three matches and tied for seventh at the York sectional with six points.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Jack Peters was eighth and Vince Booth placed 12th at the DuPage Valley Conference meet on Friday. The Rams hosted the race at Madison Meadow Park and took sixth in the team standings.
Tyler Pacana was 27th and the Broncos were seventh at the Suburban Christian Conference meet on Saturday.
Luis Miranda was fifth individually at the West Suburban Gold meet to lead the Blazers. AT placed sixth.
Jimmy Funteas ran a time of 16:01 to cross the finish line in second place at the West Suburban Gold meet on Saturday. Anthony Acitelli was eighth and the host Warriors were third overall.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
The Rams took seventh at the DuPage Valley Conference meet on Friday at Madison Meadow Park. Yoselin Toledo was 31st, immediately followed by teammate Kelly Heniff.
Brittany Fisher won the Suburban Christian Conference meet on Saturday with a time of 18:52.4. Maggie Hallerud was eighth as the Broncos were third overall.
A balanced showing by the Warriors helped them take second place at the West Suburban Gold meet. Despite not placing any runners in the top-10, all five Warriors that scored placed inside the top 20. Jocelyn Rodriguez (11th), Taylor Burton (12th), Danielle Velasquez (13th), Shannon Jones (15th) and Kathrene Garcia (17th) scored for Willowbrook.
The Blazers were sixth at the West Suburban Gold meet on Saturday.
Addison Trail/Willowbrook co-op
The District 88 co-op team placed fourth out of eight teams at Glenbrook South’s Titan Relays on Saturday. The 400-yard medley relay of Molly Hill, Annalise Morrone, Kelly McNamara and Molly Kuenstler was second. McNamara, Kuenstler, Stefani Scimeca and Melissa Johnston were also second in the 200 butterfly relay.
