DOWNERS GROVE – Every spouse has quirks that the other must live with. For David Finch and his wife, this was a major understatement.
They lived with his compulsions, inflexibility, and lack of social skills for five years until he was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome.
Determined to improve himself and his marriage, David sets out to understand Aspergers and how it affects his relationship.
The result is "The Journal of Best Practices," a collection of maxims and epiphanies that the Downers Grove Public Library described as both humorous and insightful.
Finch candidly provides readers with both a glimpse into life with an autism-spectrum condition and his quest for self-improvement.
The library invites residents to discuss "The Journal of Best Practices" with a special, virtual participant: author David Finch via Skype, an online video chat service.
Refreshments will be provided.
To pick up a copy of the book, call or visit the Ask Us Desk at the Downers Grove Public Library, 630-960-1200.
This discussion will take place at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. and is part of the state-wide reading initiative, Illinois Reads, www.IllinoisReads.org. Other free library-hosted events can be found at www.dglibrary.org/calendar.html.
