CICERO – Morton High School District 201 administrators gave a presentation on the methods used to implement the Common Core State Standards to fellow educators at the Common Vision, Common Goals conference at Illinois State University on Oct. 17.
District 201 Superintendent Michael Kuzniewski, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Programs Timothy Truesdale, Director of English, Reading and Library Fred Ulrich, and Director of Social Science and Fine Arts Anthony Grazzini were joined by their partners from the Chicago Teachers’ Center and Northeastern University.
District 201 was invited as a result of its participation in a competitive Improve Teacher Quality Grant to present on how the district is implementing the Common Core State Standards through their professional learning community model.
Kuzniewski said the invitation served as further proof D-201 is continually improving the education provided to students.
Also featured at the conference were featured two internationally known researchers with particular knowledge of Common Core State Standards, Next Generation Science Standards and Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers: Dr. James Pellegrino, Co-Director of the Center for the Study of Learning, Instruction, and Teacher Development and Dr. Timothy Shanahan, Director of the Center for Literacy. Both Pellegrino and Shanahan are professors at the University of Illinois-Chicago.
