LA GRANGE – Police found no evidence of shots fired at Lyons Township High School Thursday evening after a systematic, room-by-room search of the school and its buildings, according to Chief Michael Holub.

LT's North Campus was put on lock down at 4:10 p.m. Thursday after a 911 call to police from a staff member inside the school reported possibly hearing shots fired and screaming.

Holub said the first La Grange police officer was on the scene in 90 seconds, followed by support from police departments from Countryside, Western Springs, Brookfield and La Grange Park. Officers split into five teams and went through the school, but found no evidence that shots had been fired.

"It takes awhile, but it had to be done systematically," Holub said of the search. "We'd always rather have you call and have it be nothing than wait."

Holub said the the department regularly drills for such occasions, and in this incident, the training paid off.

Students still on the campus were interviewed and cleared from the school in groups, Holub said. Buses were also brought in to house students while the search took place. Students were later cleared to walk home or drive home, or get picked up by parents.

As of 7:30 p.m., the school had not released any additional information or released a statement outside what was posted to the school's website earlier in the evening.

In the earlier statement, LT's Superintendent Dr. Timothy Kilrea posted a statement that said all staff, students and visitors were safe and accounted for, and they had no reason to suspect a shooting at that time.
