Prep roundup: LT's Chatt wins tennis sectional title

Alex Chatt won the singles draw at the girls tennis sectional hosted by Lyons Township on Saturday.

Chatt defeated Nazareth’s Lexie Petrovic 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the final. Samantha Sherman and Meghan Hickey were third at doubles, beating teammates Jillian Kaehler and Maggie Schwartz. Both teams advanced to the state tournament along with Chatt. The state tourney begins Thursday.

LT was second behind Hinsdale Central in the sectional.

Chatt received the top seed in the singles bracket of the state tournament. Both doubles teams were seeded in the 17-32 range.

Nazareth

Lexie Petrovic will be the Roadrunners’ lone representative at state after her second place finish in the singles draw at the Lyons Township sectional. Naz was third as a team behind Hinsdale Central and host Lyons Township. Petrovic is in the 5-8 seed range for the state tournament.

Riverside Brookfield

The Bulldogs won three matches at the Lyons Township sectional to take fourth. They were unable to advance anyone to state. RB finished the season with a 16-5 record and a fourth place finish in the Metro Suburban Conference.

Fenwick

Laura Gutierrez won the singles draw and the Friars placed second at the Oak Park River Forest sectional. Dana Balk and Ana Sprajcer were fourth in doubles to also advance to state. Gutierrez is in the 17-32 seed range for the state tournament.

Proviso West

The Panthers finished with six points to tie for seventh at the York sectional on Saturday.

Morton

No Mustangs’ players were able to win a match at the Lyons Township sectional.

BOYS SOCCER

Lyons Township

LT entered Tuesday’s regional semifinal with a seven-match winning streak after beating Proviso West 5-1 on Oct. 16 and Argo 4-0 a day later.

Morton

The Mustangs wrapped up the West Suburban Gold title with wins over Hinsdale South and Proviso East last week. Morton finished 6-0 in the conference.

Riverside Brookfield

The Bulldogs lost to Leyden 6-4 in the regular season finale. RB entered Tuesday’s regional semifinal against St. Laurence with a 6-10-3 record.

Fenwick

The Friars played to a scoreless tie against Mt. Carmel to close the regular season with a 6-7-4 record.

Proviso West

The No. 19 seed Panthers took No. 13 York to double overtime before losing 2-1 in a regional quarterfinal on Saturday.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Lyons Township

Henry Hostettler and Ed McCarter cracked the top 10 at the West Suburban Silver meet on Saturday. Hostettler was ninth, one spot ahead of McCarter. The Lions were fourth in the team standings.

Morton

Mateo Hernandez led the pack for Morton at the West Suburban Gold meet by crossing the finish line in fourth. Christopher Zavala (seventh), Aaron Ruiz (ninth), Eduardo Martinez (10th) and Andrew Paplaczyk (11th) rounded out the scoring Morton pack. Downers Grove South edged the Mustangs by four points for the conference title.

Riverside Brookfield

Kevin Faje’s ninth-place finish at the Metro Suburban Conference meet helped RB take fourth place in the conference.

Nazareth

The Roadrunners took seventh at the East Suburban Catholic Conference meet. Austin Brown was the team’s fastest runner, placing 32nd.

Fenwick

Salvatore Flight was fourth at the Chicago Catholic League Championships on Saturday. His run, along with an 11th-place finish from Brixton Rill, helped the Friars take third in the team standings.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Lyons Township

Lexy Rudofski was fourth at the West Suburban Silver meet on Saturday at Proviso West. Katie Hamor was 12th and the Lions finished third behind Glenbard West and Hinsdale Central.

Morton

Lesley Lopez was 10th and Jalissa Stokes was 14th at the West Suburban Gold meet on Saturday. The Mustangs claimed fourth in the team standings.

Riverside Brookfield

Another race, another win for Mailin Struck. This time the dominant RB runner won the Metro Suburban Conference meet. Struck finish in 17:25.1 to win the race by over a minute. Sarah Melone was fourth and Clare Bollnow was 10th to help the Bulldogs take second behind Glenbard South.

Nazareth

Claire Ramsey’s sixth-place finish was the highlight of the Roadrunners’ fourth-place showing at the East Suburban Catholic Conference meet.

Fenwick

Olivia Ryan paced the Friars at the East Suburban Catholic Conference meet. Ryan won the race by nearly 15 seconds. Briana Daley placed fourth and Fenwick was third in the team standings.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Lyons Township

The Lions competed against a loaded field of teams at the Trevian Relays on Saturday and placed seventh out of 12 teams. The 200-yard medley relay team of Marie Zahorik, Elizabeth Murphy, Maeve Swineheart and Kristen Young placed fifth to earn LT’s highest finish on the day.

Riverside Brookfield

The Bulldogs had a busy weekend with a pair of invites. On Friday, they placed fifth at the Stagg Invitational and then finished third at the Maine East Relays on Saturday.

Fenwick

The Friars got a look at New Trier, their top competition for the state title, Saturday. Fenwick competed at the Trevian Relays and placed second in a 12-team field with many of the top teams in state. New Trier won the meet with 178 points while Fenwick was second with 134. Mimi Schneider was first in the 100-yard butterfly and Paulina Kaminski won the 100 breaststroke.
