Proviso West's Chance Haney (right) returns the opening kickoff against Downers Grove North in Hillside on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013.

Fenwick 20, De La Salle 0: Fenwick’s football team bounced back from its lone defeat of the season by shutting out De La Salle 20-0 in what was essentially Chicago Catholic White title game Saturday night. Both teams entered with undefeated records in the CCL White, but Fenwick proved to be the better team with a dominant defensive performance.

Richard Schoen had most of Fenwick’s big plays with a punt return for a touchdown, a 37-yard TD reception and two interceptions. In addition to passing for the score to Schoen, quarterback Gino Cavalieri ran in a 13-yard score for the Friars. All the scoring came in the first half.

The Friars (7-1, 3-0 CCL White) can seal the outright league title with a win over St. Laurence (4-4, 1-2) on Saturday.

Downers Grove North 34, Proviso West 14: The Panthers lost a fifth straight game in the West Suburban Silver.

The Trojans took a 13-0 halftime lead. Tyrone Neal got West on the board with a 65-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown in the third quarter. North scored twice more before the Panthers got on the board again.

Quarterback Dennis Bryant Jr. hit Byron Jackson for a 40-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 27-14, but the Panthers didn’t score again.

Hales Franciscan 56, St. Joseph 0: The Chargers were shut out for the third time this season and took the biggest defeat since the season opener.

St. Joseph will finish the season 2-7 after winning by forfeit this weekend against St. Francis de Sales, which dropped its varsity schedule in Week 4.
