ELMHURST – The League of American Bicyclists has designated Elmhurst as a Bike Friendly Community.

Elmhurst's Bike Task Force spent more than four years working to achieve the designation. Elmhurst was named as one of the 32 communities added to its list of Bicycle Friendly Communities.

According to a news release, the league noted the 10 to 20 percent of Elmhurst students who bike to school and the hundreds of bike racks that have been added at area schools.

Less than 300 communities across the country have earned spots on the list since the program began in 2003. Elmhurst was added to the list at the Bronze Level.
