BERWYN – All aboard.
Berwyn will be sending a local contingent to the March on Springfield for Marriage Equality Tuesday as part of a grassroots effort to secure final passage of Illinois Senate Bill 10, the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act.
Rev. Julie Boleyn, pastor of Unity Lutheran Church of Berwyn, said funding for travel to Springfield was provided by Berwyn Mayor Robert Lovero, Cook County Commissioner Jeff Tobolski, Berwyn Alderman Marge Paul and the Berwyn United Neighborhood Gay and Lesbian Organization.
Senate Bill 10 was approved with the support of Gov. Pat Quinn. Once adopted, Illinois will become the 15th state, plus the District of Columbia, to have state marriage laws that recognize same sex marriage.
The bus will depart from 3310 Grove Ave. at 8 a.m. Oct. 22.
