LA GRANGE – The League of Women Voters of the La Grange Area will host a public forum and panel Thursday to evaluate the environmental initiatives taken up by local villages in recent years.

The forum, "How Cool is Your Village?," will include representatives from La Grange, La Grange Park, Western Springs, Westchester, Hinsdale, Brookfield and Lyons Township who will report on recent local efforts to improve water quality, reduce toxic emissions and energy use, lower utility costs and educate residents to make more environmentally conscious choices.

The forum will run from 7 to 8:45 p.m. at the La Grange Public Library, 10 W. Cossitt Ave., and will be moderated by La Grange Assistant Village Manager Andrianna Peterson.

The league established the Cool Villages Committee in 2009 after two of its members, Linda Christianson and Mary Klonowski, attended a local eco fair. Since, the committee has worked with communities to promote sustainability, meeting periodically to exchange information about work being done in different areas.
