WEST CHICAGO – West Chicago Elementary School District 33 and its food service provider, Aramark, will partner to host a food-tasting expo Oct. 23 to give parents a taste of what their kids eat at school.
It will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. in the Leman Middle School cafetorium, 238 E. Hazel St., West Chicago.
The expo will feature free food and slushies, games and the chance to win a free tablet.
Food vendors will include General Mills, Pillsbury, Rich’s, Tony’s Smart Pizza, Kellogg’s, Heinz, Sysco Food Services, Pepsico/Lays, Tyson, Land o’ Lakes and more. They will distribute food samples and nutritional information.
Parents are invited to learn about new standards for school meals, try actual products that are served in the cafeteria and get information about the nutritional content and ingredients of items served at school.
A round table discussion will begin at 7 p.m. with registered dieticians Mary Jo McLoughlin, Aramark area district manager, and Donna Whims, Aramark food service director for District 33.
