LA GRANGE PARK – Nazareth Academy concluded its Homecoming celebration Oct. 6 by presenting Alumni Recognition Awards to Sister Pat Bergen of the Congregation of St. Joseph and former Nazareth teacher Dianne Kowal Kirtley.

Bergen has remained a prominent figure at Nazareth since graduating in 1963.

She has taught as a faculty member and as chair of the Religion Department, while also establishing Circle the City, an annual day of service for Nazareth seniors.

Kirtley, of Western Springs, was part of the Nazareth community for 25 years as a teacher, English Department chair, public relations director, co-advisor of the school newspaper, pom pom coach and co-moderator of Roadrunner Club. Since retiring, Kirtley has written a historical fiction novel, “Point of Departure,” which was published in January.
