Village President Kit Ketchmark announced that Brookfield’s iconic blue dolphin water tower is a finalist for a nationwide contest to determine the water tank of the year.

The contest is being run by water tank manufacturer TNEMEC, who are asking the public to vote for their favorite from a list of over 100 water tanks on their website.

Ketchmark encouraged the public to get out the vote, saying that aside from bragging rights, the town’s iconic water tower would make it into a calendar produced by TNEMEC.

Ketchmark said Brookfield’s water tower was currently in second place to Silvus, Ill., whose water tower is painted like a golf ball atop a golf tee.

“We think our dolphins are better than golf balls,” Ketchmark said.

Other villages in close contention are Mount Vernon, Ill. and Perham, Minn.

A link to the contest is available on the village’s website.

All votes must be in by Oct. 18.
