Audit reveals surplus in La Grange

LA GRANGE – For the first time in several years, the village wound up with more money in its general and water fund than anticipated, according to an audit for 2012-13 released at Monday's Village Board meeting.

Dan Berg of Naperville-based Sikich LLP told the board that the village's intake from sales tax exceeded budget by more than $100,000, while its revenue from state-shared income tax was $170,000 more than expected. The increases are signs that more people are working, Berg said. 

The audit also indicated a need for the village to improve its tracking of the cost of operating its water system. The village expects to more accurately measure the costs this year as it replaces water meters throughout the village. 

Finance Director Lou Cipparrone said the village is finalizing the replacement of the meters and implementing software that will allow staff to read them in real time. He said he expects the system to be ready in a couple weeks.
