Spirito! Singers to present annual service award at gala

ELMHURST – Spirito! Singers will will honor Senior Development Officer for Catholic Charities Dan Gibbons at its Autumn Voices Fundraising Gala next month.

The group will award Gibbons the 2013 Spirito! Service Award for his intensive service work in DuPage County and Chicago. He has raised over $2.7 million over the past 29 years to help relieve hunger in DuPage county. The 2012 honoree Rob Johnson of CBS-2 News will present Gibbons with the award.

Spirito! Singers is dedicated to helping young people develop character, discipline and civic responsibility through high level choral music education and community service. Proceeds from the gala will fund Spirito! programs like public service events, college scholarships, financial aid, music theory education and training, as well as professional concert performances, touring and recording.

The Autumn Voices event will include an open bar, hors d'oeuvres, a sit-down dinner, sweets, performances by the three Spirito! ensembles, an appearance by Bradley Garvin of the New York Metropolitan Opera, auctions and raffles. Prizes include a seven day trip to Costa Rica, a 200-level suite at the United Center and a 2013 MacBook Pro.

Two Spirito! choirs feature young women from Elmhurst, La Grange, Oak Brook, Hinsdale, Western Springs, Downers Grove, Villa Park and other western suburbs. The third ensemble, the Men of Spirito! features men 18 and older.

The gala will be from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. Nov. 2 at Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace. Tickets purchased by Oct. 21 are entered to win an iPad mini.
