Kelly wins sectional golf title, WWS advances to state as a team
NAPERVILLE - Monday was a day to remember for Will Kelly and his Wheaton Warrenville South boys golf teammates.
With Kelly bringing home medalist honors, the Tigers qualified as a team for this weekend's Class 3A state tournament after coming in as the runner-up at the Naperville Central sectional. The state tourney will take place Friday and Saturday at The Den at Fox Creek Golf Club in Bloomington.
The squad compiled a score of 309, besting third-place finisher Benet by two strokes.
As for Kelly, the junior shot a 2-under par 70 to win by two strokes.
Tommy Dale followed with a 78, Bailey Dahlquist had an 80 and Sean McCaffrey and Will Denman each carded an 81. Brian McCaffrey rounded out the group with an 83.
The Falcons will be represented at the Class 3A state meet by junior Connor Morency, who punched his ticket after shooting a 75 at Monday's Naperville Central Class 3A sectional.
The Spartans advanced to the Class 2A state meet after finishing second at Monday's Nazareth sectional.
St. Francis posted a score of 339.
John Stolte topped the squad with an 80 while Dan Zurawski and Jonathan Nocek each had an 84. Connor Buckley tallied a 91, Jeff DiTusa had a 92 and Dan Mochel carded a 94.
The state meet will take place Friday and Saturday at Weibring Golf Club in Normal.
The Warriors had a pair of individuals qualify for this weekend's Class 2A state meet at Weibring Golf Club in Normal.
Grant Gosden shot a 77 at Monday's Freeport sectional and will be joined by Zack Spear, who came in with a 78.
Wheaton Warrenville South
Kelly Anderson will be making her third trip to the IHSA Class AA state meet after qualifying out of Monday's Rockford Guilford sectional.
The junior carded a 78 to advance to this weekend's state meet at Hickory Point Golf Club in Decatur. As a team, Wheaton Warrenville South placed sixth with a 361.
Anderson had grabbed medalist honors at the Glenbard East regional on Oct. 9, helping the Tigers to a runner-up finish.
The junior shot a 75 and was followed by the 89 of Julia Hauenstein. Priya Desal came in with a 94 and Anna Stehlik finished with a 105.
Competing at the Oct. 9 Glenbard East Class AA regional, the Falcons placed seventh with a stroke total of 415. Wheaton North did not qualify any players for the sectional.
Hanna Netisingha will once again represent the Wildcats at the IHSA Class AA state meet after finishing with a round of 81 at Monday's Rockford Guilford sectional to move on to this weekend's state meet at Hickory Point Golf Club in Decatur.
West Chicago was 10th in the team competition with a 400.
Netisingha was the runner-up at the Glenbard East regional on Oct. 9 with a 78, helping West Chicago to a third-place finish. Tessa Dittman had a 90, Amanda O'Mahoney carded a 97 and Elyssa Diraddo posted a 103.
The Spartans took part in the Class A Westminster Christian regional on Oct. 9 and finished 11th with a score of 546.
The Warriors placed sixth at the Class A Aquin sectional Monday with a stroke total of 414 but did not have any state qualifiers.
Led by Hailey Farmer's 96, Wheaton Academy had come in as the runner-up at the Oct. 9 A Westminster Christian regional. Megan Herring had a 100, Lauren Isenhart produced a 102 and Chrislyn Herring added a 115.
