ELMHURST – A local car dealership will host a blood drive for an Elmhurst resident battling breast cancer.

When managers at Elmhurst Toyota heard about another blood drive held by Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, which was in Connie Weatherford's name last month, they wanted to help. Weatherford requires weekly blood transfusions because of her low platelet and hemoglobin counts.

She receives anywhere from three to five pints of blood each week from Adventist Lab Partners (ALPS). When ALPS doesn't have her blood type on hand, it's purchased from other blood banks. As a gesture of her gratitude, Weatherford wants to replenish ALPS blood supply so money can be spent on other resources.

Elmhurst Toyota will host the blood drive from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 19 at the dealership, 440 West Lake St. All blood types are welcome.

People can also donate between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the ALPS Blood Center in Hinsdale. Call 630-856-7804 to make an appointment.
