DARIEN – With Ben Stefani leading the way, Hinsdale Central's football team defeated rival Hinsdale South 17-7 Friday night.

Stefani carried the ball 30 times – nearly three times as much as the rest of the Red Devils' ball carriers combined – for 152 yards and a pair of scores as Central improved to 4-3 overall.

The Red Devils rode Stefani on their first drive of the game. The senior ran the ball on each play of the 57-yard drive and capped it off with an easy 2-yard scamper that gave Central a 7-0 lead with 7:35 left in the first quarter.

A South (3-4 overall) interception late in the second quarter set up Blake Hately's 33-yard field goal that gave Central a 10-0 lead at halftime.

A Hornet turnover in the third quarter set up Stefani's 14-yard scoring run that made it a 17-0 game before the Hornets hit pay dirt when Mark Watson went up and over a defensive back to catch a Robbie Regan pass for a 77-yard scoring strike with 2:30 left in the third.

Hinsdale Central travels to Oak Park-River Forest next week for a key West Suburban Silver game while South hosts Morton in the final home game of the year.
