Moriarity: Free one-to-one tutoring, thanks to friends

Published: Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013 2:19 p.m. CST

One of the more challenging aspects of a librarian’s work is informing our patrons about the many services that we offer.  Most people know that we have books, movies and computers for public use,  but now the La Grange Park Public Library also offers live, one-to-one tutoring through our website, provided by an award-winning service called Tutor.com.

It’s easy to find Tutor.com on our website. We link to it from six different pages! Every month, we see that more and more students are using it, and we’d like to see a lot more people use it, because it’s so amazing!

All you have to do is go to www.lplibrary.org, click on a link to Tutor.com and log in with your La Grange Park library card number. Select a grade (K-12) and subject, and you’re off and running! You and your tutor communicate through chat, a whiteboard, file-sharing and a browser. Sessions last up to 30 minutes. You can even set up an account on the site so you can review previous sessions, store notes and projects online and use the service on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. It’s available from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.

This valuable subscription service is paid for by our wonderful Friends of the Library. That means it’s free to La Grange Park library cardholders. Give it a try, and let us know what you think!
