The site of a former car dealership at 7031 Ogden Avenue is cleared to make way for a new McDonald's location.

BERWYN – The former site of an automobile dealership and repair garage was turned to rubble to make way for a new and improved McDonald's restaurant on Ogden Avenue.

Heavy equipment clawed away at the vacant building at 7031 Ogden Ave. to clear the site and build a larger, more drive-thru friendly McDonald's, which will replace the restaurant across the street at 6900 Ogden Ave.

Assistant City Administrator Evan Summers said the current restaurant at 6900 Ogden Avenue is too small to handle its load of customers, particularly those who take to the drive-thru lanes. During the morning rush hour, cars line up in the right lane of the eastbound lanes of Ogden Avenue as far as a block away, Summers said.

"We're happy to see a deal was done there," Summers said.

Plans include a double lane drive-thru.

As part of the design plan, MacDonald's plans to include on-site underground water detention on the site to alleviate any flooding.
