Prep roundup: Glenbard South's John Wold in midseason form

After not competing in the early portion of this fall, Glenbard South cross country runner John Wold showed he is in midseason form by capturing the individual title at Saturday’s Metamora Runnin’ Red Invitational.

The senior won in a time of 14:48, holding off runner-up Alex Keeble of Mahomet-Seymour by six seconds.

Joe Singleton added a third place finish for the Raiders. Joe Meade was 29th, Andrew Kladiva came in 55th and Richardo Hilliard finished 66th.

Ibrahim Jawad (70th) and Colin Meade (84th) rounded out the squad.

As a team, Glenbard South was fifth with a point total of 146.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Glenbard South

Backed by the third-place individual finish of Diane Lipa, the Raiders came in fourth at Saturday’s Metamora Runnin’ Red Invitational with a score of 134.

Lipa posted a time of 17:39 and was followed by Caroline Arlasky in 18th.

Elizabeth Niedert was 31st, Abby Schlenker placed 41st and Jayme Schlenker was 43rd.

Chloe Fry (82nd) and Erica Mote (87th) also participated.

BOYS SOCCER

Glenbard West

The Hilltoppers defeated Downers Grove North 2-0 on Oct. 10 behind goals from Jamie Hernandez and Mario Sotelo.

GIRLS TENNIS

Glenbard West

The Hilltoppers finished in fourth place at the West Suburban Silver conference meet Saturday with 25 points. Combined with their dual-meet record, Glenbard West ended up in third place in the final league standings.

Caroline Maltby finished second at No. 1 singles, Ali Bush was third at No. 2 singles and Sarah Park placed third at No. 3 singles.

Glenbard South

The Raiders defeated Hinsdale South 4-3 in a dual meet on Oct. 9.

The squad swept all four doubles matches in straight sets.

Rachel Rettger and Jenna Brambora won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles while Jennifer Lipa and Natalie O’Dowd were equally as dominant with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles.

Isabel Gritsonis and Steph Jaster emerged with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles while Pearl Opem and Emily Schmidt were 6-3, 6-1 winners at No. 4 doubles.

FIELD HOCKEY

Glenbard West

The Hilltoppers dropped a 2-1 decision to Highland Park on Oct. 12.

Melissa Carter scored the lone goal for Glenbard West.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Glenbard West

The Hilltoppers clinched the outright West Suburban Silver conference title for the second year in a row with a 14-25, 25-19, 25-19 win over Downers Grove North on Oct. 8.

The squad moved to 5-0 in league play with their final WSS match coming on Oct. 22 against Hinsdale Central.

Glenbard South

The Raiders dropped a 25-18, 23-25, 25-22 decision to Batavia in non-conference action on Oct. 10.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Glenbard West/South co-op

The Glenbard West/South co-op captured the team title at the Andrew Invite on Saturday.

The squad compiled a team score of 254, besting runner-up Stagg (246).
