Fire district meets with community officials
Discussion includes 2014 staffing, operations, equipment and resources
LAKE BARRINGTON – Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District officials presented a detailed update on the district's pending transition to independent operations in 2014 at an executive briefing for local community leaders on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at its headquarters, 22222 N. Pepper Road.
Presentations were made by BCFPD Vice President Marvin Hill, Trustee Paul Heinze, Fire Chief/Administrator Jeff Swanson, and Robert Buhs, the executive director of the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association. Attendees included officials from Barrington Hills, Lake Barrington, South Barrington, Inverness, and Barrington and Cuba Townships.
"It was an opportunity to connect with the communities we serve in a relaxed, engaged setting," Swanson said. "It offered a forum to answer questions and share our plans for ensuring delivery of superior fire and EMS services to residents."
The BCFPD future staffing and operational plans as of January 2014 are: 33 total firefighters/paramedics operating from Barrington Hills and Lake Barrington; an Advanced Life Support-equipped fire engine, ambulance and water tanker vehicle at each of the two stations; a squad vehicle and brush truck in Lake Barrington; Mutual Aid Box Alarm System assets and resources for specialized emergencies.
Now that the district has completed the division of equipment once jointly owned with the village of Barrington, it is exploring options for future purchases, such as a new ladder truck, additional engines and water tanker vehicles. Swanson said that the district is currently engaging with surrounding communities to develop new automatic aid agreements.
