Cremascoli: A bright future in District 58
During my first school year as superintendent of District 58, I enjoyed getting to know the Downers Grove community and the many individuals who work hard to ensure that our schools offer an excellent education within a caring and supportive environment.
I have been incredibly impressed by the ongoing engagement and support from the strong partnerships that exist among District 58, our parent community and the many organizations, governments and businesses that call Downers Grove home.
We are on an exciting journey of learning and growth in District 58, and I am pleased to offer our community a glimpse into some of our areas of focus this year.
Over the summer, we completed a variety of capital projects which will continue to ensure safe, nurturing, child-centered environments for all students while maintaining the capital investments of our community.
Each of our schools also received security enhancements this summer, including the installation of a remote-operated buzz-in system at the front entrances and swipe cards for staff. The safety and welfare of our students continues to be a top priority for us, and these enhancements focus on both student safety and a welcoming school environment.
Throughout District 58, we continue to raise the bar for success as we focus on teaching and learning as a journey of challenge and growth.
With the integration of the Common Core State Standards, students will be supported this year through increasingly more rigorous and robust academic standards. Thankfully, we are not implementing any new curriculum materials district-wide this year. Instead, we will be working to refine our implementation of the Common Core along with our new math materials, balanced literacy, integrated classroom technology, and assessments for learning.
Our focus continues to be on the development of 21st century learning as students work to master a wide range of reasoning, critical thinking skills and practical applications in ways that support lifelong learning and success within our global society.
Technology is transforming how students learn, explore, and make connections, and this year District 58 is excited to be advancing the opportunities and innovations that are possible with instructional technology.
In the 2013-14 school year, every District 58 classroom will continue to facilitate student-directed learning through a blending of traditional and technology-integrated materials.
I am honored to serve as the leader of our amazing school district. Thank you for your continued partnership in providing the very best learning environment and experiences for the students of District 58.
It is going to be a fantastic school year!
