Central DuPage Hospital to fund new simulation center with $1M grant

WINFIELD – Using a $1 million grant from the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, Cadence Health will create a simulation training center at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield that is expected to open later this year.

The McCormick Foundation Simulation Training Center will replicate real-world clinical settings, including a critical patient care room, emergency department and trauma care. It will feature high-tech adult and child manikins that mimic patient reactions.

“By offering simulation experiences, we’ll be able to assess and examine ways to improve patient safety and enhance the quality of patient care,” Clinical Simulation Administrator Michelle Olech Smith said in a Cadence Health news release.

Other groups, including fire districts, EMS systems, school districts, private ambulance companies, police and sheriff’s departments, hospitals and dispatch offices, also will be invited to use the simulation center.

When the center opens, about 5,000 healthcare professionals, 1,000 community residents and 8,000 high school students are expected to train there each year.
