Conroy to donate interest on paycheck

VILLA PARK – State Rep. Deb Conroy, D-Villa Park, announced Tuesday that the interest accrued on her paycheck during the time that state legislators' salary was suspended by Gov. Pat Quinn will be donated to a local charity.

Quinn suspended paychecks for legislators earlier this year, but when a judge recently ruled that the suspension was unconstitutional, payment was resumed and state senators and representatives were compensated with interest.

"With our state facing tough fiscal times, I will not accept any extra pay that is being offered to me," Conroy said. "I will be donating the interest I receive to a charity benefitting a family in need."

Conroy will return to Springfield on Oct. 22 for a veto session until Oct. 24.
