After slow start, Lemont looking for playoff success
Boys soccer teams throughout the state will begin their postseason quests this weekend and early next week, all with the goal of eventually hoisting the state championship trophy.
Lemont’s squad is surging at the right time as it hopes to start along postseason run all the way to Lincoln-Way North, home to the Class 2A state finals Nov. 8 and 9.
Sectional: Lincoln-Way West
First game: 5 p.m. Tues., Oct. 22, vs. No. 14 Brooks
Outlook: After a bit of a slow start to the 2013 season, Lemont has come into its own over the past month.
The Indians improved to 12-8-2 on the fall after a victory Monday over Reavis. Their record included a mark of 9-2 in the South Suburban Blue conference.
Offensively, the squad is led by Teddy Trifunovski.
Lemont received the No. 2 seed at the Lincoln-Way West sectional and will open up the postseason by hosting its own regional tournament. The Indians are slated to play No.14 Brooks in the playoff opener and with a win would advance to play either No. 7 Tinley Park or No. 10 Joliet Catholic in the regional championship game Oct. 25.
If Lemont reaches the sectional, matches with No. 3 seed Lincoln-Way West and No. 1 seed Bremen could be in store.
A year ago, the Indians lost 2-1 to Washington in a regional semifinal.
