Prep roundup: York quartet moves on to sectional boys golf

Four York boys golfer advanced as individuals out of the York regional at Maple Meadows Golf Course in Wood Dale on Tuesday.

Frank Wheatland and Max Holmes each shot a 76 to tie for 15th place. Jordan Less and Will Gunst each scored 77s to also advance to sectionals Monday at Springbrook Golf Course in Naperville. The Dukes shot a 306 to place fifth in the team standings.

IC Catholic

Junior Anthony Clementi advanced to the sectional tournament out of the Class 1A Westminster Christian regional at the Golf Club of Illinois by shooting an 89. The Knights were seventh overall with a 384.

Timothy Christian

Three Trojans qualified individuals for sectionals at Tuesday’s St. Ignatius regional at Cog Hill. Sophomore Jimmy Brush shot an 82, best on the team. Devin May (86) and Logan Byrne (88) also advanced. Timothy was fifth overall with a 351.



Megan Backman and Elise Rantis both earned places at Monday’s sectional golf tournament. Backman shot a 92 and Rantis scored a 93 in Wednesday’s Glenbard East regional at Glendale Lakes Golf Club. The Dukes were fourth in the regional with a 390, one place short of advancing as a team.

Timothy Christian

Peyton Pinkerton grabbed the 10th and final individual spot for the sectional meet by shooting a 116 at the Class A Ridgewood regional at White Pines Golf Course in Bensenville. Previously, she carded a 48 and placed second in the rain-shortened Metro Suburban Conference tourney.

Freshman Maddie Hurt shot an 83 at the Class A Ridgewood regional to place third in the regional and advance to sectionals.



Sitting a number of top runners the Dukes were still able to place third out of 53 teams at the Peoria Central Invitational at Detweiller Park on Saturday. Max Denning was York’s top runner in 12th place.

Philip Roberto was 32nd at Saturday’s Wheaton Academy Invitational to cross first for IC.



The Dukes placed 19th out of 33 at the Wheaton North Falcon Classic on Saturday.

Rachel Hill was 38th and teammate Mikko Eguia finished right behind her in Saturday’s Wheaton Academy Invitational. IC was ninth out of 10 teams.



The Dukes fell to 4-7-2 and 1-3 in the West Suburban Silver after a 3-1 loss to Glenbard West on Tuesday.

Timothy Christian

The Trojans celebrated senior night on Tuesday against Glenbard South and lost 4-1. Josh Anderson tied the game at 1-1 early in the second half, but it was all Raiders after that.

The day before Timothy beat Northridge Prep 4-0 with four second half goals.

The Trojans start the Class 1A playoffs on Tuesday, Oct. 15 against Chicago Richards. Timothy is the No. 2 seed and hosts a regional.



The Dukes traveled to Glenview to play Glenbrook South, where current York coach Patty Iverson won a state title with the boys program, and won 25-21, 25-14.

IC Catholic

Rory Manion had 10 kills, but the Knights lost to powerful St. Francis 25-19, 25-16 on Monday. Delaney D’Amore had 16 digs and Kimmy Martino had 11 assists. IC improved to 20-6 and 4-3 in the Suburban Christian Blue with a 25-10, 25-14 win over Aurora Central Catholic on Wednesday.
