Dr. Bruce Law named D-86 superintendent
HINSDALE – The District 86 Board of Education officially named Dr. Bruce Law as the new superintendent of Hinsdale Township High School District 86 during Monday night's board meeting.
Law had served as the acting superintendent since August after Nicholas Wahl unexpectedly left the post to take a position in Indiana. Prior to that, Law had been the district’s assistant superintendent for instruction since 2010.
“It is always gratifying to be recognized for one’s work, but asking me to continue in this role as the superintendent is both exciting and humbling,” Law said. “One approach to making a hiring decision is to use experience. Another is to use potential. I realize the board has made a bet on my potential, and I am determined to exceed even my high expectations. Thank you for your confidence in my abilities. I am very happy to continue working with you, and for you, as we move District 86 forward to realize its best years.”
In choosing Law, the board decided to forgo a national search for a new superintendent.
"Beyond his exceptional qualities as an individual, he also has the necessary experience," said Board President Claudia Manley. "He is a proven academic who is hard-working and not afraid of a challenge, as well as someone who understands the internal climate and external expectations of the Hinsdale 86 community.
"Since Dr. Law already embodies everything we were searching for in a district leader, we determined that a national search would be an unnecessary use of the district’s resources.”
Before joining Hinsdale 86, Law served as the Head of School at Chicago Virtual Charter School from 2008-10 and managed human resources, operations and finances, according to a news release.
Law was also on the faculty in the education department at Lewis University in Romeoville, and director of research and school improvement at Monroe County Community School Corporation in Bloomington, Ind.
Law earned his doctorate, master’s degree and education specialist degree from Indiana University and his bachelor’s degree from Missouri State University. Law lives in Winfield with his wife, Jennifer, and two children, Gabrielle and Carson.
