Lombard ordinance to prohibit boats, trailers in front yards

LOMBARD – The Lombard Board of Trustees recently approved an ordinance that prohibits the parking and storing of boats, trailer and other recreational vehicles in the front yards of residences between Nov. 1 and March 31. This ordinance becomes effective Nov. 1, 2014.

In this ordinance, the front yard is defined as the first 30 feet from the property line. Residents can park their recreational vehicles in their garages, in the side or rear yards or any distance past 30 feet from the property line.

"This new ordinance will help keep front yards clear of such vehicles during the winter months when they are used less," said Bill Heniff, director of community development for the village. "By having the ordinance take effect in November 2014, we are able to alert residents to that change in the Village Code. We hope the new code provisions will enhance the beauty and safety of Lombard."

All recreational vehicles with the wheels removed or that are permanently attached to the ground are illegal.

Any questions can be directed to the Community Development Department at 630-620-5749.
