Make clean water a priority

To The Editor:

Almost 60 percent of our streams, lakes and wetlands here in Illinois are not protected by the Clean Water Act. Loopholes that allow giant agribusinesses and big developers to pollute our water with pesticides, fertilizers and topsoil runoff have a significant impact on crops, livestock and drinking water.

If you are concerned about restoring clean water protections, call or write to your U.S. congressmen and President Obama about eliminating these loopholes. Clean water is a benefit to everyone in Illinois.

Make yourself heard and let your neighbors know what Washington has allowed to happen. Protecting our environment protects family businesses and jobs here in Illinois.
