The Special Olympics Illinois Outdoor Fall Festival was held Sept. 14 and 15 in Decatur. Gus and Dave DeGuilio of Lemont competed in the golf tournament as unified partners. They played nine holes on Saturday and Sunday and were awarded a Silver Medal for their exceptional play.

On Sept. 21, the Special Olympics Volleyball Area Tournament took place in Homewood/Flossmoor. Tri County Special Recreation Association won its games and advanced to Fall State Games Oct. 26 and 27 in Rockford. The scores were Wolves vs. Orland, 25-18; Wolves vs. Orland, 25-19; Wolves vs. SRJC 26-24 and Wolves vs. SRJC, 25-5. Wish them luck. Our fulltime staff has challenged our Special Olympics team to a match on Oct. 22 – should be interesting! And the Knights of Columbus will face off against the team on Oct. 29. It is an action-packed time of year for the Wolves!

It’s not too late to sign up for Tri County SRA’s Pilgrim Rock Dance Nov. 15. A traditional Thanksgiving feast will be served and dancing after dinner will offer the opportunity to work off those calories right away! It will be held at the Romeoville Rec Center. If you’re interested, give us a call and register now.

We are making final preparations for our annual Recognition Dinner Dance Oct. 18 at Prairie Bluff Golf Course. It is complimentary for our participants. We look forward to getting together to celebrate a memorable and exciting past year.

We have received very good reviews on our Disability Awareness Program created to educate community members about what it’s like to live with a disability. Recently, it was presented at Hadley Middle School in Homer Glen. 17 participants enjoyed the program. Give Program Manager Kathy Ochromowicz a call at 815-407-1819 ext. 203 for more information.

Finally, I want to ask for your support for our fundraiser. We’re selling Christmas wreaths and table decorations during October. The fresh cut items are supplied to us by a grower who practices sustainably. Don’t miss out. They are reasonably priced and sales help us continue our good work. For more info, call Brenda at 815-407-1819 ext. 201. The deadline to place an order is Oct. 25 and orders can be picked up at our office between Nov. 25 and 27. Hope you can help.
