CAROL STREAM – Witnesses stopped a burglary in progress by chasing two suspects and helping police apprehend them Oct. 2 in Carol Stream, according to a news release from the Carol Stream Police Department.

Police responded at 10:15 p.m. to Tobacco Palace, 345 E. Geneva Road, for a burglary in progress, the release said. When they arrived, they found witnesses chasing two subjects who had, according to the release, just broken into the store.

Rodney W. Carroll, 27, and Harmony Joy Young, 30, both of Carpentersville, are each charged with one felony count of burglary, according to the release.

The two threw a rock through the front glass window of Tobacco Palace to steal cigarettes, the release said. Witnesses inside a neighboring business heard the glass break and went outside to see Carroll running from the scene with cartons of cigarettes from the store, according to the release.

Carroll yelled to Young, who was waiting in a nearby getaway car, to leave, the release said, but witnesses stopped Young from departing until police arrived. Carroll dropped the stolen items and fled the area, but was later located adjacent to North Avenue, with the assistance of the DuPage County Sheriff's Office, according to the release.

Further investigation led police to East Dundee, where a similar burglary took place last month, the release said. East Dundee police intend to file charges against both Carroll and Young.

Both suspects were transported to DuPage County Jail after the incident.
